Blog #6

I have gained a lot of insight when writing the first (rough) draft of my Literature Review. I reviewed helpful YouTube videos on how to properly organize my literature review and it really cleared up how to write a great review! I gained very interesting data and information from the numerous articles I found on my topic. It helped to broaden my topic to both children and adults when looking at physical interventions in the mental health setting. I feel like I can improve on my organization skills when writing the review as well as adding more sources so I can have at least ten. I do think I did fairly well on addressing my topic and the question I have proposed. Over the next week or so I will be proofreading the comments from my peer review and adding in more quotes from the authors to support my topic. I also will have to navigate other databases to find more sources as I only have 8 at this point. I also am going to do more research to add more to my topic as I feel that there can be more issues addressed with physical intervention in the mental health field. I am debating on comparing adult outcomes vs children but am not clear on how much data is out there as of yet.

Another step I plan on taking in the next week is talking to my peers about how they have organized their reviews and what would be the optimal way to present the data for my specific topic. I also am going to have a LCSW whom I work with look over my lit review for some higher level feedback. As the review applies to what my Agency model proposes I think high level feedback from a clinician will be greatly useful.

I also need to update my references page as I did not get to it for the rough draft. Adding a running header is also a small step I have to complete but overall the next two weeks shouldn’t be too bad!

An interesting perspective I have gained from this review is the implementation of restraint free environments. As I brought up my topic in a meeting with my boss who is an LCSW she explained that the agency is moving in that direction and our new goal is reduction of restraint and more trauma informed care. It is a breath of fresh air hearing that I can be part of a major culture change to a progressive environment.

I chose this photo because I have compared this semester to a staircase where we take steps one at a time. Now we are heading towards spring break and there are only a few sessions left so the half-way point is in sight!
